John Jay will be open 10:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. as an additional study space during the week of May 5. 

Follow five team members as they prepared for and executed Columbia Dining’s best event of the year.

During Earth Week, the NYC Mayor’s Office of Food Policy hosted signatories from its Plant-Powered Carbon Challenge (PPCC) for an anniversary event. Columbia, among the first signatories for the program, presented a case study detailing accomplishments and challenges from its first full year of participation.

On Thursday, April 24:

  • Johnny's Food Truck will be closed for lunch to prepare for Surf & Turf. Dinner service will begin at 7 p.m.
  • John Jay and Ferris will close from 2-4 p.m. to prepare for Surf & Turf. Both locations will close at 8 p.m. once the event ends. After 8 p.m., alternate dining locations include Chef Mike's Sub Shop, Johnny's, and JJ's Place. 
  • Chef Don's Pizza Pi closed early due to an unexpected service disruption.

On Friday, April 25:

  • JJ's will be closed from 4 - 10 a.m. for routine maintenance. Normal hours will resume at 12 p.m.

This March, while students enjoyed a week off from class during Spring Recess, Columbia pantry workers and short order cooks hit the *cook* books. Over the course of two days, 40 Columbia Dining staff members took part in two courses: Knife Skills and Kitchen Equipment. 

Columbia has taken significant strides in reducing food-related carbon emissions in its first complete year of PPCC participation. The University seeks to achieve a 25% reduction in food-related emissions by 2030.
